Bringing the children?


We have gathered the best cycle routes on small roads and cycle trails in Denmark.

Children will for the most part be able to cycle around freely on the routes below. To some children, the ride may seem long which is why some of the routes take in attractions and places to eat.

This ensures that everyone can take a break whenever they want and children retain their eagerness to carry on.

The Gjerrild Rail Trail (32,03 km)

Gjerrild–Ryomgaard – Rail Trail

The Ryomgård-Gjerrild-Grenaa Railway operated from 1911 to 1956. The rail trail was overgrown for 50 years, but is now a lovely and very tranquil cycle and hiking route.

The Alhede Trail - Regional Route 21 (45,59 km)

Herning-Viborg

Trains ran on the Alhede Railway between Viborg and Herning from 1906-1977. Today the section is a lovely and tranquil hiking, riding and – not least – cycle route.

Brande-Grindsted – Rail Trail

A long, flat section with beautiful natural scenery for all the senses to enjoy. This route has no cars or steep hills – just a great gravel path, birdsong and a wealth of fragrances.

Nibe, Aars, Haubro

56 comfortable, paved kilometres on a nature trail along a disused railway await in this very beautiful part of western Himmerland.

The Bryrup Rail Trail - Regional Route 31 (65,40 km)

Horsens-Silkeborg – Rail Trail

In some places, the nature trail between the two towns in Jutland has been dug through hills. In others, cyclists ride on a dam and in one instance over a famous bridge. In East Jutland, cyclists ride on moraine. In Mid-Jutland, conditions become more sandy. In other words: A beautiful and varied ride awaits.

Ribe, Wadden Sea – Circular Route

Ribe is Denmark’s oldest city. This route takes cyclists right to the heart of Danish history. The scenery is so beautiful that UNESCO has named it a World Heritage Site.

Fanø – Circular Route

A long section along the North Sea, through the plantation and back along the Wadden Sea: this route guarantees fresh air with a whiff of salt water, wild rabbits, lots of wading birds and earthenware dogs in the windows.

The North Sea Nature Park - Panorama Route 405 (25,90 km)

Vejers Strand, Oksbøl – Circular Route

To the south, the Danish North Sea Nature Park borders the Wadden Sea National Park. Irrespective of the time of year, this route provides a very rare experience of nature. We recommend taking this route in September.

Ride on Water - Panorama Route 406 (20,84 km)

Henne Strand, Filsø, Blåbjerg – Circular Route

The name of the route should be taken literally as the route offers a lovely and safe ride around – and over – Filsø which, after having undergone nature restoration, is the second largest lake in Jutland.
