Castles, Palaces and World Heritage - Cycling Along the Romantic Rhine

Castles, Wine and World Heritage

The EuroVelo 15 - Rhine Cycle Route follows the Rhine for 1,233 km from its source to its outlet. It is consistently signposted with the EuroVelo 15 sign and runs through four countries and nine UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The part along the Romantic Rhine between Bingen/Rüdesheim and Remagen/Unkel is characterized by a unique (cultural) landscape. More than 60 castles and palaces, medieval half-timbered towns and steep vineyards represent the famous Rhine romanticism.

West of the Rhine between Bingen and Remagen

The Rhine Cycle Route runs through the unique landscape of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Upper Middle Rhine Valley from Bingen to Koblenz. It passes numerous castles and follows the river closely.

More one of a kind experiences, such as the German Corner in Koblenz, the world’s tallest cold-water geyser in Andernach and the romantic Roland’s Arch in Remagen, are waiting along the Lower Middle Rhine Valley.

East of the Rhine between Kestert and Unkel

This diverse stretch mostly follows the Rhine, but also offers detours through quaint towns, such as Leutesdorf, Linz and Unkel, which offer perfect spots for a rest.

Sights like the Marksburg, Fortress Ehrenbreitstein and the ‘RömerWelt’ are just some of the highlights along the route. This stretch houses two UNESCO World Heritage Sites with the Upper Middle Rhine Valley and the start of the Upper Germanic-Rhaetian Limes
